Walnut Street Kitchen

TLDR: amazing food, especially the salads, want to come back and eat everything on the menu Longer version: I was in the mood for something a little different, and the menu at Walnut Street Kitchen called to me. I knew I wanted the Filipino chicken kebabs and snap pea salad, and then there were two specials that stood out—potatchos and a winter citrus salad. We made a meal out of small plates/appetizers and were completely filled up. Every dish was better than the last, and each bite was amazing. The salads/vegetables were incredible, and I LOVED the chicken kebabs while my husband (who doesn’t love fish roe) devoured the potatchos special (which was liberally sprinkled with roe). We haven’t even gotten to the entrees yet, but I have my eye on several dishes lol. We also got the Thai tea tea-ramisu for dessert, and omg, we need to come back and try everything on the dessert menu. I’m sad we haven’t been here sooner. The decor is cute; the atmosphere is welcoming; and it’s just a lovely local place that I wish more people knew about. Highly recommend. Edit: oh the owner/chef Beverly stopped by to chat, and she’s LOVELY. She talked about her food inspiration and how she organizes the menu to make sure people always have something they want to try next. Warm, welcoming, and absolutely a delight. Just cannot recommend enough. Edit 2: eep, we didn’t get to try the bagel bread pudding (which they make with their own bagels), but they send us home with a bag of bagels!! Seriously, if you’re not eating here, you’re missing out.

What a find. Gourmet food with down to earth, caring service, relaxed atmosphere and unexpected combinations of flavors. Delicious desserts too. Best meal in Montclair ever. Beats the pants off most of the restaurants on the other side of town. Can not wait to go back

My husband picked this place because it's literally two steps from the train station. First time here and what a pleasant surprise. The meatball appetizer was amazing! The meatballs were moist and bursting with flavor and the red sauce was incredible! I ordered the pumpkin ravioli, sliced potatoes in short rib ragu, it was the perfect bite, perfect amount of ragu and bits of short rib, absolutely a "must order"! The cardamom olive oil cake was such a treat and an excellent cake! Will definitely return soon!

Charming BYOB with seasonal dishes made with care. We were a party of 5. Once we let them know we were catching a show at The Wellmont that night they worked to deliver our food promptly which we were very appreciative of. Not only did they help get us out on time but it was delicious. I shared the center-cut pork chop with someone who wanted it more well done than I'd choose and it was still incredibly juicy and cooked perfectly. I come from a Filipino and Italian background and personally geek out over the dishes that leverage both cuisines. So far I've loved their Chicken Adobo Marsala and Chicken Adobo Alfredo. I recommend: any iteration of the "Adobo" entree, pork chop entree, fried mushrooms appetizer, olive oil cake dessert.

What a lovely restaurant! Went there with two gal pals and everything was perfectly delicious and mindful. Truly an intimate experience, our server was so knowledgeable about all the dishes. The bread and butter was a work of art, chicken fried mushrooms blew my mind. Friends got steak and cod and both loved. Overall a perfect way to dine on a Friday night.

This place has been the talk of the town for quite some time, and it is easy to see why. The quality and love of this food truly shines through with every plate. Starting out with the incredible apps, the bread service is a must! Also, the brussels sprouts and meatballs were out of this world. The pasta was nothing short of extraordinary, home made cavatelli pasta, whipped ricotta with a little heat, perfection! The steak Was an absolute dream, and came with a side of crispy potatoes with a sauce on top that I absolutely could’ve taken a bath in! Last but not least the phenomenal chai tiramisu and cardamom olive oil cake. Wow! And check out the dim sum on Sundays !

A 5 star experience from the moment we walked in! The food was delicious, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the service was outstanding. I truly enjoyed everything I ate and was very happy I made room for some dessert. A must if you're in Montclair

I have hosted 3 parties at Walnut Street Kitchen, each 20 plus people. All 3 parties experienced great food and service. I also eat there quite frequently, one of my go to restaurants. I have enjoyed brunch and dinner, never been disappointed. Food is amazing, delicious and some dishes so creative. Owner is a gem, always checks on you and personally oversees each dish. Am already planning next get together at this fabulous restaurant.
